Bashundhara Kings’ chances of winning fifth straight Professional League title boosted when they beat arch-rivals Abahani Limited 2-1 at the Kings Arena on May 4, Saturday.

It was third meeting between two big-budget sides in the ongoing season and Kings kept 100 per cent winning record intact, thanks to an early strike by Rakib Hossain who scored in the very fifth minute. Miguel doubled Kings’ lead in the 34th minute converting a penalty.

After the first half. Abahani tried hard to return to the game and reduced the margin in the 50th minute when Cornelius Stewart scored a neat goal.

The traditional Sky-Blue outfits missed several chances that all-but faded their title winning hope.

It was Kings’ 12th victory in 14 matches that helped them raised their tally to 37 points, nine points clear Mohammedan and 12 points up Abahani Limited.

Kings will face Mohammedan in the next week match. A win against Mohammedan would be enough for Kings to make the history of winning straight five titles as no one in Bangladesh did it before.
