History of the Club: Dhanmondi Sporting Club was established in 1962 in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area. Apart from football, the club regularly participated in many sports since its inception. However, for a long time, the club was not discussed as a big name in the sports arena of the country. In 2004, the club's then president Khairul Anwar Piyaru was shot dead by assailants. After his death, the activities of the club came to a standstill. In 2009, sports organizer and friend of Bangabandhu's son, Shaheed Sheikh Jamal, Manjur Kader took charge of the club and renamed the club after Sheikh Jamal. From the second division, they directly qualified for the Bangladesh Premier League and formed the best team and became league champions in the 2010-11 seasons. The club won the league title in 2013-14 and 14-15 seasons. They have also three Federation Cup titles in their show-case. Bashundhara Group co-chairman Tasvir Sobhan took over as club president a few years ago.
